Responsible and safe operation of adventure tourism.

The Brazilian Association of Technical Laws (BATL) has just published the technical law that defines the minimum obligations for tourist guides of off-road 4x4 vehicles ou buggies (ABNT NBR 15383). This law, developed at the scope of the Project of Normalization and Certification in Adventure Tourism, has received expressive approval in the National Consult it underwent. This law defines the obligations of off-road tourist guides who travel through conventional and non-conventional routes in 4x4 vehicles or buggies, either driving clients, driving a 4x4 vehicle or buggy, or even, watching those who are driving.

Among other requirements, the guide must be capable of: -maintaining the vehicle in adequate functioning condition; -promoting the instruction of clients; - master techniques of 4x4 vehicles or buggy driving; - deciding about alterations in the itinerary of the off-road tour; -solving situations of car dive; -taking care of the clients' confort.

The technical rule "Adventure Tourism - Off-road tourists guides of 4x4 vehicles or buggies - Personnel Compentences" is complementary to the technical law of Adventure Tourist Guides - Personnel Compentences (NBR 15285), already published by the ABNT. In other words, the off-road tourist guide must present the minimum compentences of adventure tourism guide rules and also specific rules for his particular activity.
