Fifteen young adults between 16 and 25 years of the Seridó Region are participating in a Rock Lapidating Course, in the city of Currais Novos. Some have already worked with mineral artcrafts, they are egresses of PETI (Program of Erradication of Child Labor) and are learning to lapidate chrystal quartz, a mineral found in abundance in Currais Novos, Parelhas and other areas of the Seridó. After the capacitation, the lapidators are apt to work with gems, like thurmaline, aqua-marine and others.
The course lasts three months and is being held through the APL Pegmatitos, in a partnership between the Sebrae/RN, the ADENE (Northeastern Development Agency and the Uniminas (Cooperative of Potiguar Miners), who have yielded the lapidating machines.
