Religiosity and Faith
The
religiosity is a trademark of the people from the Seridó. They are people of fiber, that honor and cultivate tradition. One of the oldest parishes of Rio Grande do Norte was installed at Seridó, at the city of Caicó, in 1748. The religiosity contributed, in a decisive way, to the
culture of the Seridó, to a strong feeling of identification and beloging to the region.
The
feasts of the local saints are unforgettable spectacles of faith and devotion. Rare moments in which the worshippers can insert themselves in the festivities where they pay homage to the saints that have helped them in the long walk to the presents days.
The
processions and novenas are also moments in which the people from the Seridó can renew their hopes of better days. These festivities may be considered letters of presentation of the region. Always present in the calendars of all the cities of the Seridó, the religious parties have the power to redirect the practices of the daily life, where all the city dresses up in festivities in worship of its local saint, reenforcing the
identity of a festive region with great hospitality.
