Caicó
In Caicó, rivers, rocks, grottos and mountain ranges, such as Serra de São Bernardo, the Serra da Formiga, the Serra da Caridade and the Pedra da Baleia, are perfect scenery for hiking, rappelling, motorcycle rallies, mountain biking, camping, trails and trekking. In the culture of Caicó, the Brotherhood of the Negros of Rosário are a highlight, created in 1771, that still celebrates its rituals with a personnal coreography, using spears and tribal dances to the sound of secular drums.
Other highlights are the artcrafts, the Feast of Sant'Ana and the carnival. Caicó carries the title of "land of embroidering", with international regards for the quality of its embroidering. After running, strolling and extasiating yourself with such beauty, it's time to try the extraordinary carne-de-sol (sun-dried meat) and the butter and curdle cheeses, besides the delicious sweets and homemade cookies.
Caicó é the biggest city of the Seridó and its population begun at the Penedo Farm, in 1735. It was elevated to the condition of village in 1788, under the name of Vila Nova do Príncipe (New Village of the Prince). In 1868, it reached the category of city, receiving the names Cidade do Príncipe (1868), Cidade do Seridó (1890) and, finally, Caicó (1890).
