Cerro Corá

Cerro Corá, place of extreme beauty, shelters the spring of the Potengi River, where you will find the Vulcanic Valley, with natural tanks, the Ilha do Sossego (Island of Tranquility), the mountain ranges of Rajada and Verde, and the Dam of Elói de Souza, built in 1937. The town, that has only 10 thousand inhabitants, is located in a mountain area, around 575 meters above sea level, where the temperature, during some months of the year, is below 20ºC. The region also provides the discovery of archeological sites with rustic inscriptions.

Like most of the northeastern countryside towns, Cerro Corá had its population and formation characterized primarily by the cattle cycle and, later on, by the cotton cycle. The construction of the first housings on the "Barro Vermelho" (red sand) - first given name of the town -,  dates back to the 19th century. The population later started calling it "Cerro Corá", in honor of the last battle in the War of Paraguai.
