Jardim do Seridó

The town of Jardim do Seridó offers archeological sites, with various locations for walks, trekking, canoe rides and horseback riding. To know the Seridó river, passing through the scarped rocks, where you can discover a small lake of calm waters and various waterfalls, know as the Poço da Moça (Well of the Girl), is to know for certain that nature is prodigal and surprising. The cultural-historic attractions will also get your attention, like the housings, churches and two-floored houses, with secular architecture. The homemade cookies made in the town, known popularly as raivas, tarequinhos and sequilhos of cassava gum (all local recipes of cookies), are appreciated in all the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

The population of the town began with the arrival of Antônio Azevedo Maia, in the mid 1770s, who became the owner of a farm bought from 1st Sargent Alexandre Nunes Matos and named it Conceição Farm. Dismembered from Acari, in 1858, the people of Conceição became a town with the name of Jardim (Garden), because of the existence of a beautiful garden kept by the Captain Miguel Rodrigues Viana. In 1874, to differ from Jardim de Angicos, the town was named Jardim do Seridó. The population is of 9,297 inhabitants.
