Parelhas

Parelhas is a town that holds innumerous mineral resources, the highlight being the manufacturing of tourmaline, aquamarine, granada, amethyst, among other semiprecious rocks. The Borborema Plateau, a groups of mountain ranges - the Queimadas, the Coruja, the Areia, the Tibiri, the Maniçoba, the Gargantas, the José Elias and the Maribondo -, reveal the virgen beauty of the place and the many opportunities of strolls: walks, trails for jeeps, horseback riding and whatever else your imagination asks for, even to sit, calmly, to delight yourself with the most beautiful sunset. An image that purifies the mind and truly touches.

The city has its origin at the Boqueirão Farm, created in 1865. The farm was considered a meeting place for ridelifters headed for the state of Paraíba and horseback riders that passed frequently through the Conceição de Azevedo fair, nowadays, Jardim do Seridó. There was an ample road on the way to the Boqueirão Farm, where the riders and boiadeiro (who took care of the cattle) rode side by side, grabbing parelha. These acts gave the city its name.
