Ecocultural Tour



Talhado do Gavião - Carnaúba dos Dantas
Ecocultural tour leaving from Natal and heading to the the high desert regions of Rio Grande do Norte: the Seridó - one of the most moving destinations of the country -, although still little known to the brazilians. This tour shows the other side of the caatinga.

In between the diversity of the fauna and the flora, lies very hospitable people, of great cultural wealth and culinary abundance. A scenery of amazing rocky formations that hide tracks from the past. Signs of an ancient culture that composes an archeological legacy that emanates through all the corners of the region. Come see them. Embark in this exciting experience of culture and discovery.



1st Day - Friday
NATAL / CURRAIS NOVOS

Morning reserved for the arrival of passengers and leave from Natal heading to the city of Currais Novos. Check-in  at selected hotel. After check-in, we'll follow on to the establishment Sertão Bonito, where we will have lunch. During the afternoon, many activities will happen, among them bath in pool, ecological trails and a wagon ride. At the end of the afternoon, we will take an exciting stroll to the peak of the Serra do Chapéu to watch an spetacle of sunset. Return to hotel. Free night and dinner.


2nd Day - Saturday
CURRAIS NOVOS

Our program set for this morning includes two activity options:

1 - Culinary and Artcrafts Workshops: accompanied by artists  from the city, we can learn to work with rocks, papers and fabrics, exercising the arts of painting, embroidering and straw-sewing, among others. We will also learn a bit more about culinary from the Seridó in a mini culinary course;

2 - Trekking at the Cânion dos Apertados: a middle level walk that takes us to one of the places with most birds and plants. To meet some of the uses of each plant and curiosity about the animals. A real lesson on nature. We will arrive at some primitive paintings of the Talhado do Gavião, where we'll appreciate the interpretation of the inscriptions and a smoking breakfast. When we return, check-out in Carnaúba dos Dantas;

2 - Historic City Tour in Jardim do Seridó: check-out from Carnaúba dos Dantas and leave for Jardim do Seridó, where we will take a stroll through the history and culture of the town, meeting its architectural patrimony consisted of houses, streets made by people from a nearby community of Brejuí Mine. At the end of the afternoon, we suggest a visit to local artcrafts store of the town for shopping. Return to the hotel. Night and dinner free. Sleep at Currais Novos.


3rd Day - Sunday
CURRAIS NOVOS / CERRO CORÁ
ACARI

After breakfast, we leave for the city of Cerro Corá, where we will see the incredible rocky formations of the community of Serra Verde. The formations in granite present curious primitive inscriptions that date to 2 thousand years back, by ancient inhabitants of the region. There, there are also natural tanks that store water and where some prehistoric fossils of animals have been found. We suggest lunch at the house of some locals. After lunch, we will hike up the Serra de Sant'Anna on board a legitimate "pau-de-arara" - primitive means of transportation still used by people from the countryside in all the northeast. Near the peak of the ranges, we'll take a bried walk and see the springs of the Potengi River, the main river of Rio Grande do Norte. After the walk, we'll end the day with a marvelous regional snack at the Chã da Divisão Farm. The menu has variety and there is a warm reception by the family so the visitors can feel at home. After the lunch, we'll go on to sleep at the city of Acari. Check-in in selected hotel. Dinner and night free.


4th Day - Monday
ACARI

Breakfast and leave for one of the three optional activities::

1 - Horseback Riding at the Pendanga Farm: horseback riding for approximately 3 hours going through the roads and trails that lead to the Água Doce Farm. The Pendanga Farm is one of the ancient properties of the region that still has the architectural style and typical furniture. Like the ride, the regional snack offered to the visitors is unforgettable, with juices, cakes, cheese and sweets;

2 - Visit to the Gargalheiras Dam: accompanied by young people from the Colony of Fishermen from the Gargalheiras Dam, we'll take a wonderful boat ride through the calm waters of the dam. We'll get to the building structures, getting to know from the inside one of the most important work of engineering in the Seridó;

3 - Visit to the Artcrafts Workshop: Acari is a priviledged city when it comes to the production of artcrafts. Many objects are made in ceramic, leather, wood, embroidering and junk and can be appreciated and bought by visitors at the workshops and boutiques, or at the town stores. Lunch in selected restaurant and brief break in the beginning of the afternoon. After the break, we will take a Historic City Tour through the city of Acari. Passing by houses, streets, churches and will arrive at the interesting Museum of Sertanejo. Here we will see many different economic cycles of the people from this region. We end the afternoon with a beautiful sunset near the peak of the Lagoa Santa mountain, from where we'll have a great view of the Acauã River and the Gargalheiras Dam. At night, before dinner, we can watch an exciting presentation of the Acari Philharmonic. Sleep in Acari.


5th Day - Tuesday
ACARI / CARNAÚBA DOS DANTAS

Strong breakfast, check-out and leave for the city of Carnaúba dos Dantas. There we will see one of the many archeological sites that exist in the city. The diversity of the primitive paintings and itaquatiara inscriptions make the place one of the most important in the segment of archeology in the country. Lunch will be in a selected restaurant. Check-in at the family house participating in the Bed, Breakfast and Hammock Program. After lunch, we'll participate in arts workshop at the Municipal Horto. The Master Dedé and the Sertão Vivo group will have organized many group dynamics, small clay modelling and painting workshops and musical and poetry presentations that will make out of our afternoon a moment of great joy and culture. The end of the afternoon awaits us with a beautiful sunset, where we can choose among the following locations:

1 - Bivar Castel, imponent construction in medieval style. In this poetic scenery, the melody of a saxophone accompanies the last sunrays;

2 - Hike to the Monte do Galo, reference of faith to the people from Seridó, from where there is an amazing view of the region. As an optional activity, we suggest a poetic night in the property of Mr. Francisco Rafael Dantas. "Seu França", his poetic name in the city, offers a typical dinner and recites popular poetry that talk about life in the Seridó. Sleep in Carnaúba dos Dantas.


6th Day - Wednesday
CARNAÚBA DOS DANTAS
JARDIM DO SERIDÓ

The day begins earlier for the optional activities:

1 - Interpretative trail with identification of planta and birds from the caatinga and visit to the primitive paintings of the Talhado do Gavião: we'll wake up along with the first beams of sunshine for an unequal experience: a profet of the dessert, how a profound expert in the region is called, will stimulate us to interact with nature, watching its diversity. We will distinguish many species of birds and plants. To see the different uses of each plant, curiosities about animals. A real lesson on nature. We will get to the primitive paintings of the Talhado do Gavião, where we'll appreciate the interpretation of the inscriptions and well awaited breakfast. Upon return, check-out from Carnaúba dos Dantas;

2 - Historic City Tour in Jardim do Seridó: check-out in Carnaúba dos Dantas and leave for Jardim do Seridó, where we'll take a stroll through the history and culture of the city, meet their architectural patrimony made from houses, streets and churches. Lunch in a selected restaurant. Check-in in a hotel in the city. In the afternoon, we will visit the Meliponário Jandermm for a taste of honey from stingless bees. The visitors will taste honey directly from the hive, without any risks. Special dinner with a rereading of the Seridó cuisine at the restaurant Baby Attitude.

7th Day - Thursday
JARDIM DO SERIDÓ / PARELHAS
JARDIM DO SERIDÓ

After breakfast, we leave for the city of Parelhas. We'll visit the primitive paintings of the Mirador Farm and the serrotes (small rocky hills) of Cidade de Pedras Farm - all aboard a 4x4 vehicle. Before lunch, we will see a workshop of pedra-sabão (soap-rock) artcrafts. We'll learn a bit more about the techniques used in this activity and take home a personalized piece.

Lunch will be in a selected restaurant. After lunch, visit to one of the farms in the region for a small break. At the end of the afternoon, we'll visit the quilombola community of Boa Vista. We'll watch an exciting presentation by the Negros do Rosário with their vibrating Dança dos Espontões. At night, some forró pé-de-serra at the Rajada Farm. Return to the hotel. Sleep in Jardim do Seridó.


8th Day - Friday
CAICÓ

Breakfast, check-out and leave for the city of Parelhas. This morning reserves an exciting off-road stroll to the Serra do Boqueirão. The peak shows a beautiful view of the dam (which has the same name), as well as the urban area of town. After the stroll, we go on to Caicó. Check-in in a hotel. After lunch, comes desert. And this one is special: many wonderful types of sweets and regional cheese, to be tasted in a visit to the artcrafts candy store. During the afternoon, with suggest either of the following activities:

1 - Visit to the Mosteiro das Clarissas: a peaceful place that inspires reflection and relaxation;

2 - Rappelling followed by a visit to the Alambique da Cachaça Samanaú: for the lovers of adventure we suggest rappelling from approximately 8 meters high at the Traíras dam. To celebrate the victory, we'll visit the modern instalations of the Alambique Samanaú. We'll get to see each level of the process and taste the cachaça of the Seridó. Free night and dinner. Sleep in Caicó.


9th Day - Saturday
CAICÓ

After breakfast, we will get  to know a little bit more about the city in a Cultural-Historic City Tour. We finish the tour in the Casa da Cultura (House of Culture), where we'll take an artcrafts workshop with Mestre Custódio. Lunch in a selected restaurant. During the afternoon, after a brief break at the hotel, we leave for shopping in Caicó. The city is known in all Brazil as one of the main locations of manufacturing of embroiderings. We will learn a bit more about this activity. Return to hotel. Free night and dinner. Sleep in Caicó.


10th Day - Saturday
CAICÓ - NATAL

After breakfast, check-out from hotel. Return to Natal. Lunch in a selected restaurant in Natal. Transfer to airport. End of our services.
